What Is Backflow and Why Does It Matter?

Backflow occurs when water in your plumbing system flows in the wrong direction—allowing contaminated water to enter your clean water supply. This reverse flow can carry harmful substances like fertilizers, chemicals, and sewage into your drinking water, posing serious health and safety risks.

Backflow usually happens when there’s a sudden drop in water pressure or a malfunction in your backflow prevention device. Regular testing and maintenance are essential to ensure your system continues to function properly, protecting your home and keeping your water safe.

Backflow Testing

The most important step in protecting your property and health from backflow contamination is to have regular testing done. Our plumbers are trained to accurately test all types of backflow prevention devices, ensuring they are functioning correctly. When you schedule backflow testing with Clovis Plumbing, you can expect:

Certified Technicians

Our licensed plumbers are fully certified to perform backflow testing in compliance with all state and local regulations. We follow precise testing procedures to ensure results are accurate and reliable.

Comprehensive Testing & Inspection

We thoroughly evaluate your backflow prevention device by checking water pressure before and after the unit, inspecting every component, and identifying any leaks or mechanical issues.

Thorough Reporting

We provide detailed documentation of all testing results and device performance, giving you a clear record of your system’s condition. Our reports meet all local requirements and can be easily submitted to the proper authorities for compliance verification.

Honest Recommendations

If we find any issues or inefficiencies during testing, we’ll provide clear, straightforward guidance on the necessary repairs or replacement options. Our goal is to ensure your backflow prevention system stays compliant and your water supply remains clean, safe, and protected.

Backflow Repair and Replacement

If your backflow prevention device isn’t performing as it should, prompt repair or replacement is essential to keep your water system safe. Over time, components such as seals, check valves, and springs can wear out or become obstructed, reducing your device’s effectiveness. Our plumbers accurately diagnose the problem and perform the necessary repairs to restore proper operation and water pressure balance.

When a device is beyond repair, we offer professional replacement using high-quality, code-compliant equipment designed for lasting performance. Every repair and installation is completed with precision and thoroughly tested to ensure reliability.

Signs of Backflow Issues

Backflow problems can develop quietly but have serious consequences if not addressed quickly. Recognizing the warning signs early helps prevent contamination of your water supply. If you notice any of the following issues, it’s time to schedule a professional backflow test with Clovis Plumbing:

Discolored or cloudy water
Unusual or unpleasant taste or odor
Sudden drops or fluctuations in water pressure
Gurgling sounds or air bubbles in faucets and fixtures
Slow drainage or water backing up unexpectedly
